Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received a lot of interest from companies around the world for the next big phase of its solar energy project. A total of 47 international companies have shown they want to help build the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This solar park is being built using a special system called the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, where private companies help produce and manage power.
This big announcement was made by HE Saeed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, during a special event at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Dubai. Around 100 guests from top solar energy and battery storage companies attended the event.

In his speech, Al Tayer said that Dubai is following the smart vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai. He said Dubai is serious about becoming a world leader in clean energy and protecting the planet. The city has clear plans – called the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These plans promise that by the year 2050, all of Dubai’s energy will come from clean sources like solar power.
Al Tayer explained that the seventh phase of the solar park will be a very important step. It will produce over 1,600 megawatts (MW) of electricity and will also have 1,000 battery storage, which can store 6,000 megawatt-hours of energy. This means solar power can be used even when the sun isn’t shining.
The construction of this phase will start soon, and it will be finished in parts between 2027 and 2029. By the year 2030, it will be able to produce 4.5 terawatt-hours of clean electricity every year. This clean energy will help reduce the use of natural gas. Dubai won’t need to burn 36 billion cubic feet of gas every year. This will also help lower harmful carbon emissions by eight million tonnes yearly. Thanks to this, clean energy will make up 34% of Dubai’s total energy – which is more than the earlier goal of 25%.
Al Tayer also said this phase will increase the total power capacity of the solar park to 7,260 megawatts, helping Dubai become a leader in using clean energy. DEWA is also working with experts from around the world, including a group led by Deloitte, to make sure everything goes smoothly – from planning to investment.
He added that the strong interest from 47 companies from 17 different countries shows that the world trusts Dubai’s green energy plans.
Al Tayer ended his speech by thanking Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his leadership and vision. He invited developers and companies to send their proposals and help build the seventh phase. “Together, we can create a great future with clean energy and set an example for the world,” he said.
The event also included a video showing the past and future stages of the solar park, and a Q&A session where guests could ask questions about the project.
