Dubai has officially begun the construction of its first aerial taxi vertiport, a groundbreaking project that is set to reshape the city’s urban transport landscape. Located near Dubai International Airport (DXB), the vertiport is expected to be operational by 2026, offering a state-of-the-art solution for urban aerial transport.
The project has received full backing from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of the UAE. His endorsement paves the way for Dubai to become the world’s first city to implement a fully integrated urban aerial transport network, designed for the efficient take-off and landing of aerial taxis.
Designed to blend seamlessly into Dubai’s futuristic skyline, the new vertiport will cover an area of 3,100 square meters and is designed to handle approximately 42,000 landings and 170,000 passengers annually. The facility will feature multiple zones for aircraft take-off and landing, as well as specialized areas for aircraft charging, an aerial taxi apron, and ample parking spaces for both passengers and aircraft.

In its initial phase, the aerial taxi service will include stations located at strategic points throughout the city, including near DXB, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. This ambitious plan promises to significantly enhance Dubai's transportation infrastructure, offering a new, high-tech mode of travel for residents and visitors.
International collaboration plays a key role in the project’s success. Joby Aviation, a leader in aerial mobility, will manage aircraft manufacturing, operations, and passenger movement. Meanwhile, Skyports will be responsible for designing, constructing, and operating the vertiport infrastructure. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will oversee governance and ensure the integration of the aerial taxis with Dubai’s existing transport network.
The aerial taxi service is anticipated to launch in the first quarter of 2026. The taxis will use the innovative Joby S4 aircraft, which features six rotors and four battery packs, enabling it to fly for up to 161 kilometers at speeds of up to 321 kilometers per hour. With a capacity to carry four passengers and a pilot, the Joby S4 generates much less noise compared to traditional helicopters, making it a quieter and more environmentally friendly alternative for urban air travel.
As Dubai continues to push the boundaries of innovation, this vertiport will not only provide a new mode of transport but also further solidify the city’s position as a global leader in advanced mobility solutions, setting the stage for a future where aerial taxis become a regular part of urban commuting.
