UAE’s First Hospital-Based eVTOL Vertiport to Launch in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is set to welcome a futuristic leap in healthcare transport as Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi teams up with Archer Aviation to establish the UAE’s first hospital-based vertiport. This initiative will allow electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to directly access one of the region’s leading medical facilities, significantly reducing travel times for patients and visitors.

The partnership aims to transform patient mobility by offering rapid, emission-free transit between the hospital and nearby locations. Archer’s “Midnight” aircraft, capable of carrying up to four passengers, will handle both non-emergency passenger travel and time-critical organ transport. With lower noise and emissions compared to conventional helicopters, the aircraft aligns with Abu Dhabi’s sustainability goals while enhancing medical logistics.

The vertiport project will upgrade Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s existing helipad to accommodate both traditional helicopters and eVTOL aircraft. This dual-capacity approach follows Abu Dhabi’s broader plan to create a city-wide advanced air mobility ecosystem. By leveraging hybrid vertiport regulations from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the initiative sets the stage for seamless integration of innovative air transport into the city’s infrastructure.

Beyond efficiency, the vertiport is expected to support the hospital’s role as a hub for medical tourism and critical care.
