OpenAI is excited to announce the launch of its pioneering nationwide campaign for ChatGPT in India, designed to enhance AI accessibility and local relevance for users throughout the nation. This extensive campaign will be showcased across television, OTT platforms, digital media, print, and outdoor advertisements in the coming weeks, aiming to connect with audiences nationwide.
Central to the campaign is its emphasis on regional language support and voice-centric functionality, demonstrating how ChatGPT can aid in education, preparation, and creative pursuits in the languages that resonate most with the users. This initiative builds upon several recent features tailored for Indian audiences, including Study Mode for learners, an affordable ChatGPT Go subscription, and IndQA, an assessment tool that measures AI capabilities in various Indian languages and cultural settings.
The campaign features two short films directed by the renowned photographer and filmmaker Bharat Sikka, highlighting typical scenarios where ChatGPT empowers individuals to enhance their confidence and tackle challenges. The films will be released in seven languages: Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu, showcasing the platform’s dedicated focus on localization.
Sheeladitya Mohanty, OpenAI's Head of Marketing – India, remarked, “Our ambition is to ensure ChatGPT feels natural, intuitive, and culturally sensitive in Indian languages. This campaign portrays genuine narratives of users engaging with ChatGPT to learn, innovate, and converse in their preferred languages.”
The first film, currently available, features a young woman getting ready for a job interview with the assistance of ChatGPT. These videos can be viewed on YouTube and Instagram, alongside appearances on TV, streaming services, print outlets, and public spaces, maximizing reach and interaction.
Moreover, OpenAI has indicated that ChatGPT Go is being offered free for eligible users in India for a full year since early November. This offer applies to users signing up through web, Android, and iOS platforms, enabling a broader audience to engage with the application and its AI capabilities on various devices.
