KOLKATA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially commenced the psychological testing of Sanjoy Roy, the primary accused in the horrifying rape and murder case of a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor in Kolkata. This critical step in the investigation is being meticulously overseen by a specialized team of five experts from the CBI's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).
The accused, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, was stationed at the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the tragic incident occurred. On August 9, the young doctor's partially clothed body was discovered in a seminar room, with multiple injuries indicating a brutal assault. The incident has sent shockwaves through the medical community and the nation, prompting widespread demands for justice.
Roy had access to various departments within the hospital, raising concerns about the ease with which he could carry out such a heinous crime. As the investigation intensifies, the psychological test is seen as a crucial tool to understand Roy's mental state, behavioral patterns, and potential motives. The CBI’s team of experts, who arrived in Kolkata yesterday, are conducting the test using a pre-prepared set of questions designed to probe deeper into the accused's psyche.

The psychological test, often referred to as a "psychological autopsy," is a specialized assessment method used to analyze the mental and emotional state of individuals under investigation. This process includes techniques such as psychoanalysis, which helps in understanding the accused's habits, routine, and behavior. In some cases, it may also involve a layered voice analysis—commonly known as a lie detector test—to determine the veracity of the accused’s statements.
Although the CBI does not require court permission to conduct this psychological test, any further advanced tests like brain mapping, narcoanalysis, or a more comprehensive lie detector test would need to be sanctioned by the court. The results from these tests could play a significant role in the legal proceedings that follow.
Meanwhile, a forensic team continues its work at the RG Kar Hospital for the third consecutive day, meticulously collecting evidence from the seminar hall where the victim's body was discovered. The forensic examination aims to gather critical clues that could provide more context to the crime and strengthen the case against the accused.
The entire investigation is being closely watched, with the public and medical community anxiously awaiting justice for the young doctor whose life was brutally cut short. As the CBI presses forward with its inquiry, the psychological test marks a pivotal moment in unraveling the truth behind this shocking crime.
