The Election Commission of India conducted the 18th general elections in 543 constituencies in seven phases, from April 19 to June 1. The Lok Sabha elections for the 28 seats in Karnataka were held in the second and third phases on April 26 and May 7. In Karnataka, five seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates and two for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka and the IT hub of India, comprises four Lok Sabha seats: Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, and Bangalore South. These seats went to polls on April 26.
In the 2019 elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three out of four Bengaluru constituencies, while the Congress won one seat. DK Suresh from the Congress won in Bangalore Rural, and DV Sadananda Gowda, PC Mohan, and Tejasvi Surya from the BJP won in Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, and Bangalore South, respectively.
The BJP-led NDA alliance won the 17th Lok Sabha Election in Karnataka by securing 26 seats, with the BJP winning 25 of them. The INC and JD(S) alliance secured only two seats. The fate of the world's largest democracy will be revealed today, with election results expected by the afternoon.
Exit polls predict that the BJP-JDS alliance will dominate in Karnataka. Estimates suggest they will win around 20-25 Lok Sabha seats, while the INDIA bloc is projected to win around 2-7 seats. The Today-Axis My India exit poll estimated 23-25 seats for the NDA and 3-5 seats for the INDIA bloc.
The Congress is currently in power in Karnataka. In May 2023, Siddaramaiah became the Chief Minister after the Congress won the Karnataka Assembly elections.
