Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu have announced that they are getting a divorce after being married for 29 years. The couple has three children: a son named AR Ameen, and two daughters, Khatija Rahman and Raheema Rahman. They made the news of their separation public on Tuesday through a statement from their lawyers.
After the news broke, AR Rahman shared his feelings on X (formerly Twitter). He said that it was "shattering" for him to carry the "weight of broken hearts." He also talked about how they had hoped to reach their 30th wedding anniversary, but that dream would not come true. In his post, he wrote, "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again."
Rahman also thanked his friends for understanding their situation and respecting their privacy during this difficult time. He ended his post by saying, "To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter. #arrsairaabreakup."

On the same day, their lawyer Vandana Shah and Associates released a statement explaining the reasons for their divorce. The statement said, "After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other."
The statement also said that the couple had gone through a lot of emotional strain in their relationship. Despite the love they have for each other, the problems they faced made it impossible to fix the gap between them at this time.
Both AR Rahman and Saira Banu asked for privacy and understanding from the public as they go through this tough period in their lives. They requested that people give them the space to heal.
