Dr Sultan Al Jaber Wins 2026 Global Leadership Award

Washington, 25 March 2026 – His Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, and Executive Chairman of XRG, has been awarded the 2026 Distinguished Global Leadership Award by the Washington DC-based Middle East Institute (MEI). He dedicated this prestigious recognition to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the country’s frontline workers.

The award was presented during MEI’s 80th Anniversary Gala in Washington and recognises Dr Al Jaber’s outstanding contributions to energy, industry, technology, and economic development, as well as his dedication to international cooperation and sustainable growth. His pragmatic leadership in addressing global energy demand, especially amid emerging markets and artificial intelligence, was highlighted.

Accepting the award, Dr Al Jaber credited His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed for shaping his leadership journey. “Everything I know about leadership, I learned from one person. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan,” he said, praising the UAE President for his vision, integrity, and decisive leadership under pressure.

Dr Al Jaber also honoured the UAE’s frontline workers who safeguarded the nation following recent unprovoked terrorist attacks. He cited the bravery of armed forces, civil defense personnel, nurses, and engineers who maintained safety and essential services during crises.

Emphasising the strategic importance of energy security, Dr Al Jaber warned against the weaponisation of the Strait of Hormuz, calling it “economic terrorism” affecting global energy and food supply. He stressed that no nation should be allowed to destabilise the global economy through such tactics.

Dr Al Jaber further highlighted the strength of UAE-US ties, describing the partnership as “tested in peacetime and proven under fire,” and stressed its importance for regional stability and energy security. He contrasted two possible futures for the Middle East: one of instability versus one of progress, affirming that the UAE has long chosen openness, dialogue, and development over conflict.

The MEI, established in 1946, recognised Dr Al Jaber for his role in promoting dialogue, engagement, and cooperation between the US and the Middle East, particularly at a time when sustained partnerships are critical for regional stability.
