The U.S. government will send out a new Social Security payment on Wednesday, April 9. This money is for retired people to help them with their living costs. The amount includes a 2.5% increase, which started in January 2025. This small rise is to help people buy things they need as prices have gone up. People do not need to fill out any form or do anything to get the money. It will go into their bank account or come as a check in the mail.

This April 9 payment is only for people who were born between the 1st and 10th day of any month and started getting Social Security money when they turned 62.

The most money someone can get every month in 2025, if they retire at age 62, is $2,831. If someone waits until they are 70 to retire, they can get up to $5,108 each month. The money a person gets depends on how long they worked, how much they earned, and when they chose to retire.

Sometimes there can be small delays in getting the money. This might happen if there are bank issues, holidays, or if your account details have changed. If your payment does not come by April 9, you should wait three more work days, check your “My Social Security” account online, ask your bank, or call 1-800-772-1213.

Also, in 2025, the government changed the rule about how much money is taxed for Social Security. Now, people who earn more money (over $176,100 a year) will pay more in Social Security tax. These changes are to help keep the Social Security program working well for everyone.
