Apple is moving forward with plans to improve its Vision Pro headset, even though the first version didn’t do as well as expected. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is working on two new versions of the Vision Pro. One will be a cheaper, lighter version, designed to look more like Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. The other version will be for professional use, designed to connect directly to a Mac.

The original Vision Pro was first announced in June 2023 and released in 2024 at a price of $3,500. It was meant to introduce Apple’s idea of spatial computing. However, the headset was very expensive and heavy, which led to a lot of complaints. Some users said it caused neck and head pain when used for a long time, and some even asked for refunds. Despite these issues, Apple is deciding to keep working on improving the Vision Pro with new models.
The first new version Apple is making is going to be lighter and more affordable. It will be smaller and more comfortable to wear, much like Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. This new headset is still part of the Vision Pro family, but it will be more comfortable for people to wear and will appeal to more users who couldn’t afford the first version. The price is expected to be lower, but this could be difficult for Apple due to high manufacturing costs and problems related to production in China.
The second model Apple is making will be for professional use. This version will be wired, which means it will plug directly into a Mac. It is focused on providing very fast performance, which is important for professional work. Unlike a previous idea Apple had for a version with clear lenses, this new model will keep the immersive design of the first Vision Pro, where users can still see their surroundings while using the headset.
Apple had originally planned to just update the Vision Pro with a new chip, the M5. But after receiving feedback from business users about problems with the wireless version, Apple decided to focus on a wired headset. This new direction shows that Apple is now focusing more on the needs of professionals who need fast and reliable performance.
According to Gurman, these changes are part of Apple CEO Tim Cook’s long-term goal. He wants to eventually create lightweight augmented reality glasses that people can wear all day. A source close to the company told Gurman that Tim Cook is focusing all his energy on making this happen, and it’s the only product he cares about right now.
So, while the first Vision Pro headset had some problems, Apple is working hard to make new models that will fix those issues and make the headset better for both regular people and professionals.
