Amazon has confirmed a disruption in its cloud services in Bahrain following reported drone activity in the region, highlighting the growing impact of Middle East tensions on critical infrastructure.
The company stated that its Amazon Web Services (AWS) region in Bahrain was affected. However, it did not disclose the exact scale of the disruption or provide a clear timeline for full recovery.
To minimise the impact, Amazon is actively shifting customer workloads to alternate AWS regions. The company has advised users with services hosted in the affected area to migrate operations to other locations to ensure continuity.
AWS plays a key role in powering a wide range of services, including banking systems, e-commerce platforms, and government operations. Even a regional disruption can have wider effects due to the interconnected nature of cloud infrastructure.
Businesses in the United Arab Emirates and nearby regions are not expected to face major outages, but some users may experience slower performance or temporary service adjustments as traffic is redirected.
This marks the second disruption in recent weeks linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Earlier incidents had also impacted AWS facilities in Bahrain and the UAE due to power-related issues.
With no confirmed timeline for full restoration, businesses are staying alert and focusing on backup plans while monitoring the situation closely.
