In a thrilling FA Cup quarterfinal match between Manchester United and Liverpool, Amad Diallo emerged as the hero for the home team with a late winning goal. The match, held at Old Trafford, saw both teams put on a spectacular display, resulting in an FA Cup classic that extended into extra time. Despite Liverpool holding a 3-2 lead at the end of the first half of extra time, Marcus Rashford's goal in the 112th minute leveled the score at 3-3.
However, it was Diallo who ultimately stole the show for Manchester United, scoring the decisive goal in injury time of extra time to secure a dramatic victory. His celebration, inspired by Lionel Messi, involved removing his jersey, which unfortunately led to him receiving a red card. Already on a yellow card for a foul earlier in the match, Diallo's actions resulted in a second yellow and subsequent dismissal. Despite this, he received a hero's reception from the home fans as he made his way off the pitch.
Reflecting on his performance, Diallo described the winning goal as the best moment of his career, although he expressed disappointment at being sent off. "It’s the best goal of my life," he remarked, "I am disappointed to be sent off, but what is important is to win. To beat Liverpool is a big, big moment for me."
Earlier in the match, under-fire Antony had scored an equalizer for Manchester United, setting the stage for Diallo's heroics. The victory comes at a crucial time for Manchester United, who have endured a challenging season, currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier League. With their hopes of securing a top-four finish dwindling and early exits from both the Champions League and League Cup, the FA Cup triumph provides a much-needed boost for the team.
Manager Erik Ten Hag expressed optimism about his team's trajectory, highlighting their recent strong performances. "This could be that moment," he said, "the team have the belief and energy to do amazing things. When you beat Liverpool, you can beat any opponent."
Overall, Diallo's late winner and subsequent red card encapsulated the drama and excitement of the FA Cup clash, leaving both players and fans with unforgettable memories of a thrilling encounter.
