Air Travel to Undergo Big Change: No More Boarding Passes Soon

Post by: Omar Nasser

Soon, flying on an airplane may become very different. A world group called the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is planning a big change. This group makes rules for air travel.

They want to stop using old-style boarding passes and check-in counters. Instead, travelers will upload their passport to their phone before going to the airport.

Once that’s done, they can walk through the airport without waiting in long lines. A special “Journey Pass” will be on their phone. This pass will have all the travel info and will update if anything changes — like if the flight is late.

Face scan machines will know when a passenger has reached the airport and where they are. If you have a big bag, you’ll go to the bag counter. If you have a small bag, you’ll go straight to security.

Valerie Viale from Amadeus, a travel company, said that airlines still use old systems. The last big change was 20 years ago when we started using e-tickets instead of paper tickets.

But this new system needs airports to build new machines and tech. It’s not easy because airports around the world work together. Flights get delayed or changed all the time, so everything must work smoothly.

With the Journey Pass, travelers won’t have to wait 24 or 48 hours to check in. They can get all the details on their phone — flight, car, hotel — in one place.

Don’t worry about your private info. It will be deleted just 15 seconds after you pass any airport machine.

Also, your phone will tell you if your next flight is late and give you the new time. In the future, travelers can even share their location with the airline. That way, the airline can send directions to the right gate or show where the waiting lounge is.

You can also get seat upgrades after getting on the plane. If your flight is late, the car rental company will be told. You’ll also be able to track your luggage.

This big change may take time, but it will make flying faster and easier for everyone.
