Accra has been chosen as the destination for the 5th SHE Global Awards, an annual business event held in Dubai to honor successful women changemakers. Scheduled for April 12th-13th, 2024, this prestigious ceremony, organized by the publishers of Ladies in Business Magazine Global, will recognize the diverse achievements of women driving change, as it has done in past editions in Dubai. Ghana's capital was selected for its reputation as a beacon of peace and for providing an enabling business ecosystem, as well as its prominence in tourism and hospitality.
This decision is expected to significantly boost the hospitality industry in Accra, with guests from across the globe attending the event and increasing demand for various hospitality services. The theme for this year's celebration, "The Queen of Sustainability," underscores the importance of living sustainably without harming the climate, while also highlighting the positive impact of businesswomen on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through their activities.
The awards ceremony will honor women achievers under four broad categories: Achievers awards, Women in the Corporate Sector awards, Female Entrepreneurs awards, and Young Female Leaders awards. Adeshola Helen Onadipe, Founder/Publisher of Ladies in Business Magazine Global, emphasized the inclusive nature of the awards, recognizing and applauding women in business of all races and statuses.
Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong, Organizing partner for the 5th edition and General Manager of EIB Network, highlighted the significant contribution of women to socioeconomic development, particularly in African countries where they constitute about 70 percent of all small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs). She stressed the importance of providing women with an enabling environment and resources to build a safe and sustainable society.
Louis Yaw Afful, Group Executive Director of APN Group of Organisations, underscored the importance of offering women more positions and platforms at decision-making levels, particularly in the context of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Rosette Aliu Squire, Founder of The African Regional Journal, emphasized the need for women to support each other and promote empowerment without compromising their integrity.
