Because of this hard work, Abu Dhabi was named the best city to live in across the Middle East and North Africa. It was also listed as one of the safest cities in the world. On top of that, it was picked as one of the top ten smartest cities in the world.
The head of the department, Mr. Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, said this big money plan is meant to build better roads, make public places nicer, and help people live a good life. He said the goal is to make the city strong and friendly for the future.
One big part of the work was for roads and travel. Around AED 3.4 billion was spent to make travel easier. A big road called Helio-Abu Al Abiyad Road was built in Al Dhafra. Also, a new double bridge was made on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. This bridge helped to stop long morning traffic. Now people reach faster, and traffic is less.
Another important road, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street in Al Ain, was also rebuilt. It now has a long cycling path, a space for public events, and over 780 new trees. Abu Dhabi also got 247 kilometers of new cycling tracks. Now, the city has over 1,200 kilometers of cycle paths.
The department also opened over 200 new parks and beaches. The famous Al Bateen Ladies Club was also opened again. These places give people space to play, rest, and enjoy with family. There was also a new project called Abu Dhabi Canvas that added art and color to the city streets and parks.
The city’s property center also saw good results. People bought and sold more homes. There were 28,249 deals made, worth AED 96.2 billion in total. This shows that many people want to live or invest in Abu Dhabi. The total number of sales was 16,735 and mortgages were 11,514.
In 2024, the city held the first Abu Dhabi Mobility Week. New and exciting travel ideas were shown. People saw two flying vehicles being tested. One could carry five people and fly over 25 kilometers. The smaller one could carry two people and fly 35 kilometers in about 20 minutes. Abu Dhabi also made a plan with Joby Aviation to bring flying electric taxis to the city soon.
The public transport also had a busy year. More than 90 million people used the city buses. Over 168,000 used water travel. Airports served more than 28 million passengers. All this shows the city is well connected and travel is easy for everyone.
To make buildings safer, the department started new safety rules. They also made sure engineers take tests before working. This helps make sure all buildings are strong and safe.
Abu Dhabi also became friends with cities in other countries. They made new ties with Shenzhen in China and Seoul in South Korea. They also started working with a top school in America called MIT to learn new ways to build better cities. A special office was also opened in Abu Dhabi for world smart cities, and the city will host an important meeting in 2025.
The department said many more good things will be shared soon. All this work is being done so Abu Dhabi stays one of the best cities in the region and becomes one of the top cities in the whole world. The city wants to give people a clean, smart, and happy place to live in, now and in the future.
