This pioneering programme focuses on enhancing the skills and knowledge of teachers and 11th grade students within Abu Dhabi’s Charter Schools.
The comprehensive one-year programme is designed to elevate STEM teaching capacities among educators while preparing students for a seamless transition from high school to university. Dr. Ahmed Sultan Alshoaibi, Acting Executive Director of the Higher Education Sector at ADEK, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in bridging academia with industry needs. He highlighted the programme's goal to empower students with upskilling opportunities, ensuring they are well-prepared for top-tier higher education institutions. This initiative, he noted, strengthens Abu Dhabi's human-knowledge capital by nurturing excellence in crucial disciplines.
Participants in the specialised teacher training will gain insights into students' proficiency levels, enabling them to tailor educational experiences to individual learning needs. They will also be equipped with innovative teaching methodologies and digital tools to enhance classroom engagement and learning outcomes.
The peer mentorship component aims to foster a supportive learning environment, encouraging curiosity and academic growth among students. Eligible students selected based on academic merit in mathematics will benefit from mentorship aimed at cultivating their interest in STEM fields.
Professor Sir John O’Reilly, President of Khalifa University, expressed enthusiasm about the transformative impact of the programme on STEM education across Abu Dhabi’s Charter Schools. He underscored Khalifa University’s commitment to developing Emirati leaders through world-class training for teachers and personalized mentorship for students. The programme aligns with UAE leadership's vision to enhance human capital development and inspire lifelong interest in mathematics and sciences.
The initiative has commenced its inaugural phase at Al Ghad School – Charter Schools, focusing on enhancing problem-solving skills and preparing students for academic success through the Musabaqat math competition and other educational strategies. The pilot phase will leverage diverse teaching methodologies and innovative tools to cater to diverse learning needs, ensuring comprehensive skill development among participants.
Following the successful pilot phase, the programme will expand across all Abu Dhabi Charter Schools, aiming to establish a sustainable framework for excellence in STEM education and academic achievement.
