Abu Dhabi will host the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships, making it even more famous as a top place for big sports events. The announcement was made when officials from Abu Dhabi received the championship flag from Pontevedra, Spain, during the closing ceremony of this year’s event.
Abdulraheem Hassan Al Zarooni from Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and Jamie Dean from Modon received the flag. This means Abu Dhabi will officially host the next championship in November 2026.

Talal Mustafa Al Hashemi from ADSC said that winning the chance to host this world event shows how the UAE capital is trusted to organise top-class competitions. He shared that this event will add great value to Abu Dhabi’s sports calendar and will help build a strong sports culture. It will also bring together community sports and professional sports with the best facilities.
He added that ADSC wants to follow the UAE leaders’ vision to make Abu Dhabi a world sports hub. They aim to create an environment where everyone gets equal chances to do well in sports while supporting sustainable development.
Deepak Jain, CEO of Modon Communities, said they are happy to start the countdown towards the 2026 championships. He added that Modon, along with ADSC, WORLDSPORT, and UAE Triathlon, will make this event memorable for all athletes and fans. The event will take place on Hudayriyat Island, which is known as Abu Dhabi’s main place for sports and leisure.
The championships will run from 13 to 22 November 2026. Around 3,000 triathletes from all over the world are expected to take part in six sports – Duathlon, Cross Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquathlon, Long-Distance Triathlon, and Aquabike.
There will also be many fun activities, cultural shows, and festival villages for visitors and participants. More than 80% of the people coming will be from other countries, which will support Abu Dhabi’s hotels and tourism. Over 8,000 visitors are expected, creating more than 30,000 hotel room nights and earning over US$10 million in revenue for the city.
