The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has introduced a new rule to help prepare for and respond to environmental emergencies in the emirate. This rule gives the agency the power to act quickly and firmly if there is any danger to the environment. The main goal is to reduce harm and protect nature by following proper procedures.
This new rule was created under Law No. 16 of 2005, which outlines the role of EAD. It applies to all companies and projects in Abu Dhabi that need a license from the agency. The rule focuses on businesses whose work might cause pollution that could harm the sea, land, or air. If such pollution could lead to an environmental emergency, these businesses must follow this new regulation.

The rule is part of EAD’s wider system for checking and controlling environmental activities. It allows the agency to take serious steps to prevent or manage emergencies before they happen or while they are happening.
EAD can now:
Categorize businesses and projects based on how risky they are for the environment.
Check and approve their emergency response plans.
Set clear rules and standards for how to prepare for and deal with emergencies.
The agency will also run training programs and awareness sessions to help businesses learn how to make and follow emergency plans. It will organize practice drills to see how ready companies are to face different types of environmental problems.
The rule also says that companies must:
Take steps to prevent environmental emergencies caused by their work.
Hire trained and qualified staff.
Create strong and clear emergency response plans.
This new regulation is a big move forward in making sure all companies in Abu Dhabi follow the law when it comes to protecting the environment. It helps reduce the chance of damage from industrial and development activities and shows EAD’s strong commitment to keeping the environment safe and healthy.
EAD will now begin working with its partners to put this rule into action across Abu Dhabi. They will follow an organized and careful plan to make sure everything is done properly.
