The new facility makes it much more convenient for residents, workers, and visitors to travel between the island and the rest of Abu Dhabi. It also helps businesses by improving the movement of goods. With modern facilities and comfortable waiting areas, the ferry terminal ensures a smooth and hassle-free experience for passengers. The launch of this terminal also paves the way for future expansions in Abu Dhabi’s maritime services.
Key Features of the Ferry Terminal
The Al Aliah Ferry Terminal covers a large area of 3,900 square meters and is designed to handle both passengers and cargo efficiently. Some of its main features include:
A ferry terminal with a seating capacity for 60 passengers
Two berths (15 meters and 12.5 meters) for loading and unloading roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels
An 80-square-meter office building
Seven parking spaces for private vehicles
Six truck parking spots to support cargo transport
Accommodation facilities for ferry crew members
These features ensure the terminal is well-equipped to handle daily travel needs while allowing for potential future expansion.
Commitment to a Smart and Sustainable Maritime Future
The opening of the Al Aliah Ferry Terminal aligns with Abu Dhabi Mobility’s vision to develop a world-class maritime transport system. In partnership with Abu Dhabi Maritime, the project aims to build advanced infrastructure that supports sustainable and efficient transportation.
Dr. Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director-General of the Integrated Transport Centre, expressed his excitement about the project. He said, "The opening of Al Aliah Ferry Terminal is a major step forward in our efforts to enhance maritime transport in Abu Dhabi. Our goal is to create a well-connected and sustainable transport system that benefits residents and businesses alike."
He further explained that Abu Dhabi Mobility is committed to using smart technologies and sustainable solutions to develop the maritime sector, helping the emirate maintain its position as a global transportation hub.
Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group, also highlighted the importance of the project. He stated, "This new ferry terminal follows last year’s successful launch of the Saadiyat Ferry Terminal. Our vision is to develop a safe, modern, and efficient transport system, and the Al Aliah Ferry Terminal is another milestone toward achieving that goal."
He also mentioned that Abu Dhabi Maritime is working on introducing custom-designed modern ferries that will enhance passenger experience and improve safety.
With the launch of the Al Aliah Ferry Terminal, Abu Dhabi has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and world-class infrastructure. This project will not only improve transportation but also contribute to the economic and social growth of the emirate.
