If you want to make your yoga sessions more exciting and effective for weight loss, adding twisting yoga poses can be the perfect change. Yoga experts say these twisting postures not only help you lose weight but also make your muscles stronger and your body more flexible.
According to Himalayan Siddha Akshar, founder of Akshar Yoga Kendraa, twisting poses are good for building strength and improving balance. They also help the body’s internal organs work better, which supports digestion and helps burn fat naturally. These poses engage your stomach, hips, and waist, helping you shape and tone your body while staying relaxed and focused.
One of the most common twisting poses is the Seated Spinal Twist, also called Ardhi Matsyendrasana. This pose helps your stomach and spine. You sit with your legs stretched, twist your upper body gently, and hold for a few seconds. It helps you digest food better and gives flexibility to your back.
Another popular pose is the Revolved Triangle Pose or Parivrtta Trikonasana. This pose strengthens your legs and reduces fat around the waist. It also improves balance and posture. You stand with your feet wide apart, twist your upper body over one leg, and reach down with one hand while lifting the other upward. This stretch improves both strength and focus.
The Revolved Downward-Facing Dog, known as Parivrtta Adho Mukha Svanasana, tones your arms, shoulders, and sides of your body. In this pose, you reach one hand toward the opposite ankle while keeping your hips steady. It improves your flexibility and helps release tension in your back and shoulders.
Another simple but powerful pose is the Revolved Chair Pose (Parivrtta Utkatasana). This strengthens the thighs, tones the stomach, and helps your digestion. You sit as if on an invisible chair, join your hands in front of your chest, and twist to one side. It looks simple, but it gives your body a great workout.
The Twisting Low Lunge (Parivrtta Anjaneyasana) is good for stretching the hips and toning the belly. You start in a low lunge position and twist your body to one side while raising your arm upward. This helps open your chest and strengthen your lower body.
In the Standing Twist (Parivrtta Hasta Padasana), you stand straight with your feet apart and twist your upper body side to side. This pose improves posture, tones the waist, and builds coordination. It is easy to do anywhere and gives your body an instant boost of energy.
The Revolved Abdomen Pose (Jathara Parivartanasana) is done while lying down. You lift your legs, twist them to one side, and keep your shoulders on the floor. This strengthens your stomach and massages your internal organs, which helps relieve bloating and discomfort.
Another relaxing pose is Marichi’s Pose (Marichyasana), where you sit with one leg straight and the other bent. You twist your body around the bent leg, which stimulates the liver and kidneys and tones the belly. It also helps calm the mind and improves digestion.
Lastly, the Half Lord of the Fishes Pose (Ardha Matsyendrasana Variation) improves spinal movement and reduces waist fat. It helps the stomach work better and gives the spine more flexibility. This pose is great for anyone who sits long hours at work or school.
Experts say that twisting yoga poses improve blood flow, release body toxins, and support healthy metabolism. They are also great for people who want to reduce stress and feel more energetic. These twists can make you sweat and help you burn calories in a healthy and natural way.
