WhatsApp has introduced a new update aimed at enhancing user privacy, called Advanced Chat Privacy. This feature offers more control over messages, especially in group chats where users may not be personally familiar with each other.

The new setting enables users to block the export of chat messages, prevent media from being automatically saved to devices, and ensure that messages are not used by external AI tools outside of WhatsApp. This feature adds an extra layer of protection to existing privacy options in WhatsApp, such as disappearing messages and chat locks.
In a blog post, WhatsApp explained that this feature is intended for chats that cover sensitive topics, especially those that include members who may not know each other well. "This new setting available in both chats and groups helps prevent others from taking content outside of WhatsApp when you may want extra privacy," the company stated.
To enable the feature, users simply need to open any chat or group, tap on the chat name, and select Advanced Chat Privacy. Once enabled, the feature will apply to everyone in that conversation. This means that no one in the chat will be able to export messages, use them with AI tools, or automatically save media to their devices.
WhatsApp highlighted that this new setting is particularly useful in semi-public groups, such as health support communities or discussions on important social issues, where users might want to share personal information securely.
This is just the first version of the Advanced Chat Privacy feature. WhatsApp has also stated that more improvements are on the way, with stronger privacy options expected in future updates. The feature is being rolled out globally and will soon be available to all users who update to the latest version of the app.
"We believe this feature works best for groups where you may not know everyone closely, but the topics are sensitive in nature. For example, discussing health challenges in a support group or organizing a community event," WhatsApp said. "You can activate it by tapping the chat name and selecting Advanced Chat Privacy. This is just the first version, and we plan to add even more privacy protections in the future."
