Vodafone Germany Plans 2,000 Job Cuts in Restructuring

Vodafone Germany announced plans on Tuesday to save around €400 million over two years through restructuring, leading to the elimination of 2,000 jobs. This initiative is part of a broader cost-cutting strategy announced almost a year ago, which will see approximately 11,000 job losses worldwide.

The company stated, "Personnel costs will be reduced through savings and the relocation of around 2,000 jobs—also due to increased automation for manual tasks in the future."

Significant savings will stem from modernizing outdated IT infrastructure, emphasized the company, a subsidiary of British telecommunications giant Vodafone.

Despite cost reductions, investments in high-growth sectors like cloud services and corporate clientele will be bolstered.

Vodafone expanded its presence across Europe in the early 2000s but faced challenges in markets like Spain and Italy, resulting in the sale of its Italian operation to Swisscom.

Earlier this month, Vodafone announced a leadership change in its largest market, appointing Ahmed Essam from Vodafone UK as Executive Chairman Germany and Chief Executive European Markets, replacing Philippe Rogge.
