Vishnu Vishal opens up on lack of support in Kollywood

Tamil actor and producer Vishnu Vishal has spoken candidly about his struggles in the Tamil film industry despite the success of his acclaimed 2018 thriller Ratsasan. While promoting his upcoming film Aaryan, the actor expressed disappointment over the lack of support he has received from both producers and fellow actors, saying it “pains” him deeply.

Struggles with producers

Speaking about his challenges in getting projects off the ground, Vishnu revealed that several of his films have faced repeated setbacks due to producers backing out at crucial stages.

“For Gatta Kusthi, we had six producers turn us down at the last minute. For Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran, four producers changed, and for FIR: Faizal Ibrahim Raiz, three producers backed out. Nine films that were committed to me after Ratsasan were dropped,” he said.

Vishnu explained that these hurdles forced him to step into film production himself.

“I was just trying to say that I don’t deserve all this as a person. It pains and saddens me. Even after giving hits like Gatta Kusthi and FIR, I had to wait three years for my next film. That’s why I started my own production house. Once I took over production, it took just one year to bring my new movie to theatres,” he added.

Lack of encouragement from fellow actors

The actor also expressed disappointment over the lack of acknowledgment from his peers in the Tamil film industry.

“I have noticed that when my films release and become successful, none of the actors I admire have called me to wish me in person. But when the film succeeds, they call my director and not me. They’ll set up meetings with the director for their next projects, but I won’t even get a call. These things bother me,” he shared.

Journey and upcoming projects

Vishnu Vishal made his acting debut in 2009 with Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu. Over the years, he has taken on multiple roles as both actor and producer under his banner Vishnu Vishal Studioz.

Earlier this year, his production house released the romantic comedy Oho Enthan Baby, starring his cousin Rudra in the lead role.

His next film, Aaryan, directed by debutant Praveen K, is also produced by Vishnu himself. The film is slated for a theatrical release on October 31.
