The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced strict new rules for the Indian men’s cricket team as they prepare for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. These new rules aim to cut down on unnecessary luxuries and maintain team discipline during overseas tours. The guidelines include a significant change: personal chefs, assistants, and security staff are no longer allowed to accompany players unless approved by the board.

Even senior players like Virat Kohli, who is known for his disciplined diet and fitness routine, must follow these new guidelines. However, according to a recent report by the Times of India, Kohli found a smart way to stick to his diet without breaking any rules.

Kohli’s Clever Food Hack

When Virat Kohli arrived in Dubai for training, he knew he had to find a way to get nutritious meals without his chef. To solve this, he worked with the local team manager to arrange meals from a well-known restaurant. This clever move helped him maintain his strict diet while staying within the BCCI's new rules.

The report shared an interesting moment from the training session. As the players packed up their gear after practice, Kohli was seen opening a food packet arranged by the manager. The meal contained his post-session nutrition, essential for recovery. He even kept an extra box for later.

BCCI's New Travel Rules

The BCCI's latest guidelines focus on discipline, team unity, and efficient logistics. Here are some of the key rules:

  1. No Personal Staff: Players can no longer bring personal chefs, assistants, or security personnel without special permission.

  2. Team Travel Only: All players must travel together for matches and practice sessions. Personal travel plans are not allowed unless approved by the board.

  3. Baggage Restrictions: Players can carry only 4-5 pieces of luggage, with a total weight limit of 150 kg. Support staff have even lower limits, and any extra baggage costs must be covered by the individuals.

  4. Family Visits: For overseas tours lasting more than 45 days, players' partners and children (under 18) can visit once per series for up to two weeks. The BCCI will pay for shared accommodation, but other expenses must be covered by the players themselves.

  5. Mandatory Team Stay: Players must stay with the team until the series officially ends, even if matches finish earlier.

  6. Equipment Transfer Rules: If players need to send personal items to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, they must coordinate with the team management and pay the shipping costs.

Team India Prepares for Champions Trophy

Meanwhile, Team India has already started their training in Dubai. Virat Kohli was seen leading an intense practice session, facing deliveries from fast bowlers like Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh. The team is focused on improving their batting strategies, especially during the middle and final overs.

India's first match is scheduled against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. But the most anticipated match remains the one against Pakistan on February 23.

During practice, the team engaged in a fun drill where players were divided into three groups. One team included Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shreyas Iyer. This group won the drill, with Rohit's accurate throw sealing the victory. The other teams featured players like Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Tournament Outlook

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will begin on February 19 with the opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand. Team India is determined to put forth a strong performance under the new rules, ensuring that discipline and unity remain top priorities.

While the restrictions might seem tough, players like Virat Kohli are already showing that with creativity and commitment, it is possible to adapt and succeed. Kohli's smart food hack in Dubai proves that determination and discipline can overcome any challenge, even when personal chefs are no longer part of the equation.
