The United States is preparing to sign a civil nuclear cooperation framework with Saudi Arabia during the official visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Washington. According to a person familiar with the negotiations, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the agreement will be signed on Tuesday during meetings at the White House. The framework is expected to outline areas of cooperation between the two countries on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including technical collaboration, regulatory standards, and future project planning. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who serves as the kingdom’s de facto ruler, will meet President Donald Trump at the White House, where both sides are expected to finalize the document.

The planned signing follows ongoing discussions held in recent months between US and Saudi officials to expand strategic cooperation in the energy sector. The talks have focused on developing Saudi Arabia’s long-term nuclear energy program, which aims to diversify the kingdom’s energy sources and reduce its dependence on oil. The agreement marks an important step for both countries, as the United States has been seeking to strengthen security and economic ties with Saudi Arabia, while the kingdom aims to adopt international standards for its civil nuclear infrastructure.

US officials say the framework is designed strictly for peaceful nuclear development and does not include any military or security provisions. Experts note that such agreements typically cover areas such as nuclear safety, fuel supply, technology transfer, and regulatory cooperation. Analysts also point out that the move reflects Washington’s broader strategy to maintain influence in the Middle East’s growing nuclear energy market, where several countries have recently explored similar projects. Energy policy specialists say the framework could lead to future commercial deals involving US companies, subject to additional approvals.

The White House has not yet issued a formal statement, and Saudi authorities have also not commented publicly ahead of the meeting. However, observers note that the development fits into the ongoing partnership between the two countries on energy, security, and economic modernization. The signing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Washington during official talks between President Trump and the Saudi crown prince.
