UAE Highlights Digital Trade Leadership at China Expo

HANGZHOU, China — The fourth Global Digital Trade Expo concluded on Monday in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, with the UAE participating as an official Guest of Honour alongside Indonesia. The country highlighted its leadership in digital transformation and its role in fostering global partnerships in digital trade.

The expo showcased innovations across artificial intelligence, digital health, virtual reality, e-commerce, cybersecurity, and smart city technologies. Through its national pavilion, the UAE presented projects in digital economy, financial technology, artificial intelligence, and smart innovations.

Abdullah Al Bashi Al Naemi, Commercial Attaché of the UAE to China, said the UAE’s participation reflects the strong economic ties between the two countries and reinforces its position as a key player in the global digital economy.

“Digital trade in the UAE has made remarkable progress in recent years, supported by the Digital Economy Strategy, which aims to raise the sector’s contribution to 20 percent of non-oil GDP by 2031,” Al Naemi said.

He added that UAE-China economic relations have grown significantly since the establishment of diplomatic ties 41 years ago, with trade volume increasing more than 800-fold. Non-oil trade exceeded US$50 billion in the first half of 2025.

Al Naemi noted that more than 16,500 Chinese companies currently operate in the UAE, up from 15,500 in 2024, reflecting the country’s attractive and flexible business environment.

Expo officials highlighted the UAE’s significant contribution to fostering global cooperation in digital trade, supported by strong infrastructure and a rising share of the digital economy in the national GDP.

The UAE’s participation underscores its commitment to strengthening international collaboration and advancing its knowledge economy.
