The President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, engaged in a phone conversation with Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who expressed gratitude for the UAE's unwavering support following the devastating floods and heavy rains in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan leader acknowledged the swift aid and support provided by the UAE during this challenging period.
In the dialogue, Sheikh Mohamed extended heartfelt condolences to President Dissanayake and the Sri Lankan populace for the tragic loss of lives caused by the floods. He conveyed his sympathies to the families affected and wished for the country’s resilience and recovery as it navigates through the aftermath of the disaster.
The UAE’s commitment to supporting nations facing humanitarian crises is longstanding. The nation prioritizes rapid and effective assistance to alleviate suffering and facilitate community recovery following natural disasters, reflecting this principle throughout its global endeavors.
In response to the floods in Sri Lanka, the UAE promptly initiated emergency relief operations through its national humanitarian organizations. These efforts were orchestrated by the Joint Operations Command alongside the UAE Agency for International Aid and the Emirates Red Crescent, ensuring timely delivery of assistance to the affected regions.
Search and rescue teams from Abu Dhabi Civil Defence were deployed to the hardest-hit areas, assisting locals in need and bolstering emergency response efforts during critical rescue missions.
Moreover, the UAE dispatched vital relief items, such as food and emergency shelter supplies, aimed at supporting the displaced families who lost their homes due to the floods. These provisions were intended to address immediate needs and offer temporary respite to the affected individuals.
The UAE’s ongoing support underlines its dedication to humanitarian principles and global collaboration. By extending aid to Sri Lanka in this crisis, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to assisting nations in distress, contributing to stability and recovery in perilous times.
