In a big step forward in the world of technology, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will soon become the first country in the world to give free access to ChatGPT Plus to all its people. ChatGPT Plus is the premium version of ChatGPT, a smart AI tool made by the company OpenAI. This version includes the most advanced features that millions of people already use for things like writing, learning, coding, and planning.
This special offer is part of a huge partnership between the UAE government and OpenAI. Along with giving free access to ChatGPT Plus, they are also planning to build a very large AI data center called Stargate UAE in Abu Dhabi. This project is very important for both the UAE and OpenAI. It will include a powerful AI computing center, starting with a 200-megawatt system, which is expected to be ready next year. In the future, they plan to increase the power to a full one-gigawatt AI cluster.

This plan is part of a program called “OpenAI for Countries.” Through this program, OpenAI helps different countries create and use AI tools that match their local needs and goals. It also makes sure AI works in their local languages, follows their own rules, and keeps people’s information safe. The idea is to use AI in a fair and helpful way that improves people’s lives.
OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, called this project “a bold vision.” He said that the goal is to bring the benefits of AI to more parts of the world, such as better hospitals, modern schools, and cleaner energy.
Many big companies are joining this partnership. This includes well-known names like Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, SoftBank, and G42 — an AI company from the Middle East that has support from Microsoft. Together, they hope to make the UAE one of the top places for AI development in the Middle East.
One of the most exciting parts of this project is that everyone living in the UAE will be able to use ChatGPT Plus for free. That means students, workers, families — anyone — will have access to tools that can help with homework, job tasks, creative writing, and even learning new skills, without paying any money.
This project is not only about building big tech systems. It’s also about bringing AI closer to the people and helping countries build AI in a way that works best for them. OpenAI says this is just the beginning. The UAE has also promised to match all the money it spends on AI at home with the same amount invested in AI projects in the United States. This could lead to around $20 billion in total investments, with half going to the UAE and the other half to the US.
In the coming months, Jason Kwon, the Chief Strategy Officer of OpenAI, will travel to other countries in the Asia Pacific region. He will talk to more governments about starting similar AI partnerships. OpenAI hopes that the UAE’s big step will inspire other countries to build their own powerful and safe AI systems for the future.
