In a surprising turn of events, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak has confirmed that Jaideep Ahlawat will step in for Akshaye Khanna in the eagerly awaited film Drishyam 3. This development comes just days before the shooting was set to commence, following Khanna's abrupt departure.
Pathak explained that Khanna was initially brought on board after extensive negotiations, with a firm agreement in place. The actor had previously agreed to avoid wearing a wig to maintain the character's visual continuity from earlier films in the franchise. However, influenced by advice from those around him, he later insisted on donning a wig, leading to creative disagreements with director Abhishek Pathak. Ultimately, Khanna chose to withdraw from the project altogether.
Reflecting on Khanna's career trajectory, the producer noted that the actor experienced a lull before his recent successes in Section 375 (2019) and Drishyam 2 (2022). Pathak remarked that this resurgence may have impacted Khanna's on-set professionalism, with reports of toxic behavior surfacing following his string of successes.
With Khanna's exit, Jaideep Ahlawat has officially been welcomed to the Drishyam 3 cast. Pathak expressed high regard for Ahlawat, highlighting his talent and professionalism. He also mentioned having produced one of Ahlawat's earlier films, Aakrosh (2010).
The producer revealed that Khanna's unexpected withdrawal has caused financial complications, leading to a legal notice being sent to the actor, with potential further action looming.
Pathak voiced his astonishment over the wig request, emphasizing the continuity issues that such a decision would create in a direct sequel.
With Ahlawat now part of the project, the film's team is optimistic that Drishyam 3 will successfully continue the franchise's legacy.
