World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka will face Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in a highly anticipated semi-final clash at the Miami Open on Thursday, following impressive quarter-final victories by both players.
Sabalenka continued her dominant form in the tournament, defeating American Hailey Baptiste in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The Belarusian star, who recently lifted the title at the Indian Wells, is now aiming to complete the prestigious “Sunshine Double” — winning both Indian Wells and Miami Open in the same season.
Speaking after her win, Sabalenka acknowledged the challenge ahead, describing her rivalry with Rybakina as consistently intense and competitive. She emphasized that such high-level matches help elevate her game further.
The defending champion has now improved her remarkable season record to 21 wins and just one loss. She also holds a narrow 9-7 head-to-head advantage over Rybakina, adding further intrigue to the upcoming encounter.
Earlier in the day, Rybakina showcased her resilience by staging a comeback victory against American Jessica Pegula. After losing the opening set 2-6, she bounced back strongly to win 6-3, 6-4 and secure her place in the Miami Open semi-finals for the third time.
Rybakina admitted it was a tough contest, noting Pegula’s aggressive style and quick play. She highlighted the need to adjust her tactics, including moving closer to the net, which ultimately helped her turn the match around. The win also marked her fifth consecutive victory over Pegula, including recent triumphs at the Australian Open and Indian Wells this season.
In the other semi-final, American star Coco Gauff will take on Czech player Karolina Muchova for a place in the final of the WTA 1000 event.
With top players in peak form, the Miami Open semi-finals promise high-intensity action and world-class tennis as the race for the title reaches its निर्णायक stage.
