The 2025 Dubai International Baja is set to start this Saturday, with the world’s top off-road crews arriving at Dubai Festival City Mall as final preparations are completed at the Service Park. Drivers, riders, and teams are gearing up for one of the most exciting weekends on the FIA and FIM World Cup calendars.
This year, established World Cup crews will face tough competition from several one-off entries, adding extra excitement to the race. Argentina’s Juan Cruz Yacopini, who has dominated the FIA Bajas World Cup this season, is aiming for his fifth victory in seven events. He will have strong challengers, including US rider Seth Quintero and Australian motorcycle legend Toby Price.
Even though some top Dakar stars are not registered for World Cup points, they are expected to attract all eyes. Toyota Gazoo Racing will enter two Hilux machines, showcasing top-level talent and the appeal of Dubai International Baja as a diverse and competitive event.
The ninth edition promises a spectator-friendly experience, with the Hatta Prologue starting the action, followed by a newly designed viewing zone in Al Marmoom on Saturday and Sunday. The Hatta area, known for its rugged mountains, rocky outcrops, and gravel tracks, will set a dramatic stage for the event. Nearly 100 crews from over 30 nations will take part, making it a truly global competition.
Local UAE riders are also in strong form. Mohammed Al Balooshi leads the motorcycle entry and aims for a strong start at his home event. The FIM World Cup frontrunner, who has won the Dubai Baja twice, is pursuing his third world title. In the quad category, UAE rider Abdulaziz Ahli seeks his third consecutive victory after winning the last two seasons.
Experienced competitors such as Czech driver Martin Prokop and Saudi Arabia’s Dania Akeel will return, bringing valuable experience and form to the competition. Another exciting feature of this year’s Baja is the debut of the new Defender project, with two cars appearing in Dubai as part of a development showcase ahead of the 2026 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship. Fans and spectators can expect to see these vehicles in the Service Park, Hatta Prologue, and Al Marmoom zone.
Speaking at a pre-event press conference, Mahir Badri, CEO of the EMSO, said, “The Dubai International Baja has grown into a world-class event because of the dedication of all involved. This year’s entry list shows an amazing mix of international, regional, and local talent.”
He also praised the media for their support, noting that thanks to ASO, more than 100 TV channels will broadcast highlights of the Dubai International Baja daily. This ensures that fans around the world can follow the action and witness some of the most thrilling off-road racing of the year.
With top drivers, local heroes, Dakar stars, and new innovations like the Defender project, the 2025 Dubai International Baja promises an action-packed and unforgettable weekend for participants and spectators alike. The combination of challenging terrain, competitive teams, and global attention makes this edition one of the most anticipated events in off-road motorsport history.
