Hrithik Roshan Jokes About War 2’s Box Office Flop With Humour

Actor Hrithik Roshan has finally addressed the disappointing performance of his highly anticipated action thriller War 2 at the box office, and he did it with a lighthearted touch.

War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, released on August 14, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend. The film was part of the YRF Spy Universe, following hits like Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. Despite huge expectations, the film received mixed reviews and failed to meet commercial predictions. It collected ₹236.55 crore net in India and ₹364.35 crore worldwide, falling short of its reported ₹400 crore budget. Critics and audiences pointed out issues with dull writing and subpar VFX, which impacted the overall viewing experience.

Recently, Hrithik attended a launch event in Dubai at the Coca Cola Arena. While being introduced on stage, the host praised him as a “global icon” and received loud applause from the audience. Hrithik, showing his sense of humour, replied, “That’s very kind of you… You know, my film just bombed at the box office, so it feels very good to get all the love. Thank you.” The audience cheered at his candid comment, appreciating the actor’s down-to-earth approach.

Earlier, Hrithik had also taken to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes photos from the film. Writing about his experience playing Kabir, the action hero said, “Playing Kabir was so much fun. I was relaxed and knew him so well. It was going to be easy. Finally, a movie I could do like so many others, just play the actor, do my job, and come home.” He praised director Ayan Mukerji for taking care of him on set, adding that the experience was a pleasure because of the director’s energy and support.

Hrithik also shared his thoughts on the unexpected outcome of the film. He wrote that despite everything seeming perfect during the shoot, there was a lingering doubt in the back of his mind: “This is too easy… I know this too well.” He reflected that not every film has to be a struggle, admitting, “Just relax.”

War 2 also featured actors Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana in significant roles. The film faced stiff competition at the box office from Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which further affected its collections. Despite the mixed commercial and critical response, Hrithik’s humour and honest take on the situation have won praise from fans, showing his graceful approach to setbacks.
