Thamma, the latest horror-comedy from Maddock Films, continues to make waves at the box office despite a slight slowdown during weekdays. Released during Diwali, the film has successfully captured audience attention both in India and overseas, pushing its four-day worldwide collections close to the ₹100-crore mark.
In India, Thamma has amassed ₹65.15 crore net (₹78.20 crore gross) over its first four days. The film opened with a strong ₹24 crore on Diwali, reflecting the festive audience turnout. While collections declined gradually over the next three weekdays, the drops were moderate, limited to 25% or less per day. By Friday, the daily net earnings stood at ₹9.55 crore, indicating steady weekday performance despite the initial post-festival dip.
Internationally, Thamma experienced a slower start, as Diwali is not observed in major overseas markets. However, as the weekend began, the film picked up pace, collecting nearly $1.6 million in its first four days. Early indicators suggest it is on track to surpass $3 million within the first week, highlighting the growing overseas appeal of Indian horror-comedies.
Combined, Thamma’s worldwide collections after four days stand at ₹93 crore. This total has already surpassed the lifetime earnings of Maddock Films’ recent romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, which ended its global run at ₹89 crore. Industry analysts expect Thamma to cross the ₹100-crore mark on Saturday, consolidating its position as a major box office success in the horror-comedy genre.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma revolves around a journalist, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, who becomes embroiled in a conflict among vampires portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film is part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, linking it to successful franchises like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. The narrative blends horror and humor seamlessly, with well-executed visual effects and high-profile cameo appearances adding to its appeal.
Critics have praised the film’s unique approach to horror comedy, highlighting its engaging storyline, clever humour, and strong performances by the ensemble cast. The integration of Diwali festive themes in the storyline helped secure a solid opening day in India, while international audiences are responding positively to its universal elements of suspense and comedy.
The steady decline in weekday collections is not unusual for festive releases. Analysts note that Thamma’s ability to maintain drops of 25% or less per day demonstrates strong word-of-mouth and audience retention. This factor is crucial for sustaining box office momentum beyond the initial hype and can contribute significantly to its eventual lifetime gross.
Overseas growth during the weekend indicates that the film resonates with the Indian diaspora and international viewers who enjoy Indian horror-comedies. Markets such as the UAE, USA, and UK have traditionally contributed significantly to global box office numbers for Indian films, and Thamma’s performance aligns with this trend.
Overall, Thamma’s combination of domestic strength, overseas appeal, engaging narrative, and star-studded cast has positioned it as a noteworthy release in 2025. With its current trajectory, the film is set to achieve the ₹100-crore milestone worldwide and further solidify the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe as a successful franchise in contemporary Indian cinema.
