South Korea has achieved a record-high current account surplus for August, reaching $9.15 billion, as declining imports and rising equity income strengthened the nation’s external finances. This marks the 28th consecutive month of a current account surplus, underscoring the resilience of the country’s trade and investment flows.

According to the Bank of Korea (BOK), the surplus, while slightly lower than July’s $10.78 billion, demonstrates strong fundamentals in both trade and investment income. The cumulative surplus for the first eight months of 2025 stood at $69.3 billion, up from $55.94 billion during the same period last year.
