Dubai — In a landmark moment for cultural diplomacy, H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, met with Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henni, Egypt’s Minister of Culture, during the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Dubai 2025).
Hosted in Dubai for the first time across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, the conference was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The meeting was also attended by Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State; Hala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture; and Muna Faisal Al Gurg, CEO of the Museums and Heritage Sector at Dubai Culture.
During the discussion, Sheikha Latifa congratulated Dr. Henni on the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, calling it a “foremost cultural and civilisational landmark.” She highlighted the museum’s role not only as a repository of ancient artefacts but as a vibrant hub for cultural dialogue, education, and research.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, she said, exemplifies a new vision for museums worldwide, serving as a platform for intercultural exchange while reinforcing Egypt’s leadership in preserving global heritage.
Both leaders explored avenues for strengthened collaboration, including joint projects in museums, arts, and heritage, along with the exchange of expertise in antiquities preservation. They agreed on the significance of knowledge sharing among cultural institutions to foster global understanding and bridge connections between nations.
The meeting underscored a shared commitment to cultural diplomacy and highlighted Dubai and Egypt’s ambition to position their heritage institutions as global centres of learning, research, and intercultural engagement.
