Reliance to Build 1 GW AI Data Centre in Andhra Pradesh

Reliance Industries is planning a bold leap into India’s AI future, announcing the development of a 1 gigawatt artificial intelligence data centre in Andhra Pradesh, according to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The facility is designed to host advanced GPUs, TPUs, and other AI‑specific processors — making it a “fully modular, future‑ready” hub.

This data centre won’t be a standalone project. Naidu said it will operate as a twin to Reliance’s existing gigawatt-scale AI centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, together forming one of Asia’s most powerful AI compute networks.

To power this massive facility sustainably, Reliance is also planning a 6 GWp solar power project in the state. That move aims to double Andhra Pradesh’s current ground-mounted solar capacity, unlock its solar potential, and supply clean energy for the data centre.

Reliance says this effort is not just about infrastructure — it’s a broader mission to democratise AI. Through its MyJio platform, the company wants to bring “pro-level AI tools” to students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and households across India.

The investment also deepens Reliance’s footprint in Andhra Pradesh. The group has already poured over $25 billion into the state across its telecom (Jio), retail, and oil‑and‑gas businesses.

While Reliance hasn’t publicly disclosed the exact financial terms of this AI centre, it sealed the deal in a powerful setting — during the CII Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, in the presence of CM Naidu and state minister Nara Lokesh.

This move comes hot on the heels of Google’s own megainvestment: the tech giant has committed $15 billion over five years to build its own 1 GW AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.
