Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy's 1st GCC Women's Basketball Cup in Abu Dhabi

Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, the 1st Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy GCC Basketball Cup for Ladies is set to take place from August 22-26, 2024, in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament, organized under the guidance of Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and Chairwoman of Abu Dhabi Ladies Club and Al Ain Ladies Club, will feature four teams from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC): Kuwait’s Al-Qurain, Oman’s Salalah Club, Qatar’s Al-Gharafa Club, and the host team from the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy.

The organizing committee has announced extensive preparations for a grand opening ceremony, which promises several surprises for basketball fans and visitors, as well as the presence of prominent figures from the UAE and GCC countries. This inaugural basketball tournament will be held at the new headquarters of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, which has been recently inaugurated with top-tier security, safety, and privacy measures specifically designed for women and female athletes.

The competition will coincide with the celebrations leading up to Emirati Women’s Day, which is observed on August 28 annually. The qualifying rounds will be held from August 22-24, with the final matches determining the top four teams scheduled for August 25-26. Games will be played daily from 5 pm to 8 pm.

His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, Board Member of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating: “We are excited to announce the readiness of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy to host the inaugural Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy GCC Basketball Cup for Ladies. This tournament marks a new and significant chapter in women’s basketball and sports. We look forward to welcoming our Gulf delegates and view this event as a prime opportunity to strengthen sports and cultural ties within the region. Our preparations reflect our commitment to supporting and promoting female sports talent, and we are confident that this tournament will be the first of many successful endeavors contributing to the advancement of women’s sports in the region.”
