Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has approved a transformative five-year plan aimed at enhancing the emirate's road infrastructure. The initiative, led by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), includes 21 major projects spanning 12 key residential, commercial, and industrial areas across Dubai. With a total investment of Dh3.7 billion, the plan will add 634 kilometers of new roads, marking a significant step towards improving urban mobility and accommodating future growth.

This plan is in line with Dubai’s vision to address the city’s expanding population and urban development. According to the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, the city’s population is expected to grow to 5.8 million by 2040, up from the current population of 3.8 million. The rapid increase in population is expected to put more pressure on the existing infrastructure, requiring major improvements to meet future needs.

The new road network is designed to enhance connectivity between various parts of the city, improve access to residential and commercial districts, and facilitate smoother traffic flow for businesses and residents. The project will involve the development of new arterial roads, upgrades to existing roads, and the implementation of smarter traffic management systems. These enhancements are expected to reduce congestion, cut travel time, and improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

The RTA’s plan also aligns with Dubai’s broader goals of building a world-class infrastructure that supports economic growth and sustainability. The initiative will create a more integrated transportation system that complements public transport, ensuring a seamless travel experience for all users.

By addressing both current and future mobility challenges, the new roads plan aims to improve daily transportation for Dubai’s growing population while supporting the city’s long-term development goals. The phased implementation of these projects will minimize disruptions to traffic and daily activities.

This infrastructure project is set to play a vital role in Dubai’s ongoing development, ensuring that the city remains a global hub for business and tourism while maintaining a high standard of living for its residents. It also demonstrates the leadership’s commitment to building a sustainable, future-ready city.
