His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and a Member of the Supreme Council, has clearly said that he and the Sharjah Government are fully committed to protecting wives and their children from any abuse at home—especially if the husband treats them unfairly.
He said the rules and conditions for getting a government house are made to ensure peace and safety in the family. If a husband breaks these rules, the government can take the house back from him.
His Highness also talked about how important it is to have kindness and unity in the community. He said that “faith” is the main value followed in Sharjah.

He spoke about this during a phone call on the “Direct Line” radio and TV programme, hosted by Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, who is the Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.
His Highness said,“When a husband controls or harms his wife and children, it causes many problems in the family and society. Things have gotten so bad that I had to make some tough decisions. When someone is given a government house, they must sign papers that explain the rules. One of the rules is that if they behave badly or do anything illegal, the house can be taken back. So if a man hits his wife or children, what do you think will happen? Of course, he will lose the house.”
He added,“This is not something new. The rules are written, and the person signs them before getting the house. These houses are not given just like that—they come with strict conditions. If a man treats his wife or children unfairly, we have the right to take the house away and protect the family. The wife is a full partner in the household. The husband cannot just throw her out. In Arabic, the word ‘sakan’ means home and ‘sakinah’ means peace—both are connected to the woman in the home.”
His Highness Helps Woman Return Home After Husband Abused Her
His Highness also shared a real story. In one case, a man threw his wife and children out of their house, divorced her, and took over the house. When His Highness heard about this, he immediately gave an order to return the woman and her children to the house.
Sharjah Police followed his order. They went to the house and made sure the woman and children moved back in. The man had to take his things and leave, as he had broken the rules he agreed to when he received the house.
His Highness said the man was also taking medicine that caused mental issues. So, after the house was taken back, the government helped the man find another place to stay, and they continued to monitor his condition to make sure he got better.
Through these actions, His Highness showed how seriously he takes the safety and well-being of families in Sharjah. His message was clear: any husband who harms his family will not be allowed to stay in a government house. The home must be a place of peace, kindness, and respect.
