Luca Colombo, the head of Meta in Italy, explained, "We are helping the league by creating software to make reporting illegal streams easier and faster." This will help Serie A find and remove streams much quicker.
Serie A teams like Inter, AC Milan, Napoli, and Juventus depend on TV rights to make most of their money. But illegal streaming allows people to watch these games for free, and it is a major problem. Social media and search engines are often blamed for allowing illegal streams to spread.
Serie A has signed agreements to show its games in Italy with DAZN and Sky. These contracts are worth about 4.5 billion euros ($4.7 billion) over five years. This shows how important it is to stop illegal streaming to protect these big agreements.
Luigi De Siervo, the head of Serie A, said, "Working with Meta is a first step, and I hope other companies will join us in this fight." This shows Serie A’s hope to involve other social media companies to help end illegal streaming.
The Italian government is working hard to fight piracy. Illegal streaming costs sports leagues and TV companies billions of euros every year. To combat this, the Italian government passed a new law that allows a special government agency to shut down illegal streaming networks quickly.
Recently, Italian police took down a large illegal streaming group. This group had over 22 million users in Europe and made 3 billion euros a year from illegal streams. This shows how serious the problem is. With new laws and agreements like the one with Meta, Italy is taking strong action to fight illegal streaming and protect sports leagues' income.
