Sean “Diddy” Combs Faces Sentencing After Sexual Misconduct Case

Sean “Diddy” Combs, the 55-year-old hip-hop mogul, is set to learn his fate Friday after being convicted in a high-profile criminal case involving sexual misconduct. The court will determine whether he faces significant prison time for transporting individuals across state lines for sexual encounters.

In July, a jury acquitted Combs of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, which could have carried life sentences. However, he was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Prosecutors are seeking more than 11 years behind bars, describing the acts as severe breaches of the law, while Combs’ defense argues that the sentence is “wildly out of proportion” to the crime.

Judge Arun Subramanian, who will decide the sentencing, has already denied bail twice, keeping Combs in a federal detention center in Brooklyn since his arrest. The upcoming sentence follows a nearly two-month trial where multiple women testified about violence, threats, sexual assault, and coercion allegedly linked to Combs.

R&B singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, a former girlfriend, recounted how Combs pressured her into unwanted sexual situations during their long-term relationship. Video evidence shown to the jury depicted confrontations in hotel hallways after these incidents, which Cassie described as “freak-offs.” Another woman, testifying under the pseudonym “Jane,” spoke of similar abuse.

Prosecutors also included testimony related to alleged violent acts beyond the immediate charges. A former personal assistant accused Combs of rape, while other witnesses recalled terrifying incidents, including threats from high balconies and home break-ins. Although Combs was acquitted of racketeering, the judge may consider these accounts when determining his sentence.

Both Combs and some accusers submitted letters to the court. In his, Combs expressed remorse and claimed a transformation, stating, “The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn.” Cassie’s letter portrayed a very different picture, calling Combs manipulative and power-hungry. Another accuser, testifying as “Mia,” emphasized the ongoing danger he poses, asking for a sentence that reflects this risk.

Combs’ defense maintains that all sexual encounters were consensual and highlights his efforts toward sobriety and personal growth while in jail. During recent court hearings, he appeared optimistic, telling family members he feels closer to being released.
