Delhi Police Foil Murder Plot Against Comedian Munawar Faruqui

In a dramatic turn of events, Delhi Police thwarted a planned attack on stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, who has previously faced controversies over his jokes on Hindu deities. Intelligence sources revealed that gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar, currently abroad, had allegedly instructed two shooters to target the 33-year-old comedian.

The Trap and Arrest

The counter-intelligence team had received information that Rahul and Sahil, accused in a triple murder case in Haryana, were in Delhi. Police set a trap near the city around 3 am when the shooters, riding a bike, refused to stop and opened fire on the officers. The police retaliated, injuring the shooters in the legs before taking them into custody.

Investigation Details

Further questioning revealed that the shooters had previously conducted reconnaissance on Faruqui in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Sources said that a planned attack in Bengaluru failed after Faruqui changed cars before an event. The plot appeared to be part of a larger plan orchestrated by Godara and Brar, known figures in the criminal network.

Comedian’s Past Controversies

Faruqui, who gained fame through stand-up comedy and reality TV appearances including Bigg Boss, has faced legal trouble in the past. In 2021, he was arrested in Madhya Pradesh over alleged hate speech targeting Hindu deities and spent over a month in jail before being granted bail. Last year, Mumbai Police detained him in a raid on an illegal hookah bar, after which he was released on bail.
