Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has earned the final qualifying position for the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh. Her place was confirmed after she advanced to the semi-finals of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Friday. Rybakina’s performance this season, including two WTA 500 titles, has consistently showcased her skill and competitiveness, making her a strong contender in the season-ending tournament.
In the Tokyo quarter-finals, Rybakina defeated Canada’s Victoria Mboko with a 6-3, 7-6(4) scoreline. This victory highlighted her resilience under pressure, particularly in the tightly contested second set tiebreak. Her success in Tokyo secured her third consecutive appearance at the prestigious WTA Finals, reinforcing her status as one of the top players on the women’s tour.
The 26-year-old will participate in her third straight WTA Finals in Riyadh, which is scheduled to take place from November 1 to 8. This milestone underscores her consistency and ability to compete at the highest level. Rybakina joins a strong field of elite players, including world number one Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, defending champion Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, and Jasmine Paolini.
Rising Russian stars Mirra Andreeva, 18, and Ekaterina Alexandrova, 30, have been named as the first and second alternates for the WTA Finals. Their inclusion ensures that the tournament maintains competitive integrity and allows top performers to step in if needed. This demonstrates the depth of talent currently present on the WTA Tour.
Garbine Muguruz, Tournament Director of the WTA Finals, praised the season’s competitiveness, noting that eight different players won WTA 1000 tournaments and Grand Slam events this year. She described the Finals as the perfect “curtain-call” for a season full of drama and high-level competition. The tournament is expected to deliver an exciting conclusion to the 2025 season.
Rybakina is set to face Czech player Linda Noskova in the Pan Pacific Open semi-finals on Saturday. This match will determine her path to the final in Tokyo and could impact her momentum heading into the WTA Finals. Her recent performances indicate strong form, which may give her an advantage against her Czech opponent.
With her latest results, Rybakina is set to move up one spot to world number six when the new WTA rankings are released. This improvement reflects her successful season and the consistency that has allowed her to secure a place among the top players on the tour.
The upcoming WTA Finals in Riyadh promise an exciting display of talent, strategy, and determination. Fans can look forward to seeing Rybakina compete against the world’s best in a high-stakes tournament that concludes the 2025 season. Her journey from Tokyo to Riyadh highlights both her skill and resilience as a top competitor.
