Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finished installing new street lights in key areas, including Umm Suqeim 1, Abu Hail, and Al Baraha. This work is part of the 2024–2026 Street Lighting Plan, which aims to light up 40 areas across Dubai by the end of 2026.
This plan is an important part of RTA’s goal to improve the city's road network and infrastructure. By updating street lights, RTA aims to make Dubai’s streets safer, brighter, and more welcoming for everyone, while also supporting the city’s growth and expansion.
The lighting projects include the installation of 959 poles and 1,010 LED lights. The work also involved laying down 47,140 meters of underground cables. These new lights use the latest technology to improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians while saving energy. The lights are also environmentally friendly, which helps reduce energy use and supports Dubai’s goals for a greener city.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, explained that RTA has focused on using smart, energy-saving technology that works well with the UAE’s weather. "These new lights will make roads safer and help us build a more sustainable city," he said. "We’ve installed 959 poles and 1,010 LED lights, and laid 47,140 meters of underground cables in Umm Suqeim 1, Abu Hail, and Al Baraha."

RTA is also working on more lighting projects in other parts of Dubai. Some of the areas include Mirdif, Umm Suqeim 2 and 3, Al Manara, and the street to Al Minhad Air Base. These projects will include the installation of 763 poles, 764 LED lights, and the laying of 48,170 meters of underground cables. RTA plans to complete lighting improvements in Al Safa 1 and 2, Al Hudaiba, Al Satwa, Al Bada’a, Al Wahida, and Jumeirah as part of this phase.
In 2025, RTA will expand the lighting projects to areas like Al Mamzar, Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh 1, Al Awir 2, and Al Quoz Residential Areas 1 and 3. Other locations include Nad Al Hamar, the street to Bab Al Shams, and streets in Hor Al Anz, Hor Al Anz East, and Al Nahda 1 and 2.
In 2026, RTA will add street lights to more areas, including Oud Al Muteena 1, Umm Ramool, Al Jafiliya, Al Marmoom, Nad Al Sheba 1, and Al Warsan 2. More streets in Hatta, Al Qusais, Al Garhoud, and Business Bay will also be included in the lighting improvements.
These street lighting projects show RTA’s dedication to improving Dubai’s streets for everyone. By using smart, energy-saving lights, RTA is making the city safer and more sustainable. The lighting upgrades help reduce energy use and make Dubai’s neighborhoods more attractive and safe.
As the projects continue, the RTA is working to make Dubai a place where the streets are well-lit, safe, and welcoming for everyone, supporting the city’s growth and future development.
