Dubai Launches ‘Rashid Villages’ to Transform Lives Globally

Dubai: In a heartfelt tribute to his late brother, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, today unveiled Rashid Villages, a global humanitarian initiative aimed at empowering underprivileged communities through sustainable development.

Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of Sheikh Rashid’s passing, the initiative seeks to honor his enduring legacy by building model villages that provide families with housing, education, healthcare, and social services. “My brother’s impact will remain alive through humanitarian projects that carry hope and goodness to the world,” Sheikh Hamdan said.

Integrated Model Villages

The first Rashid Village will be established in Kenya, spanning 7.2 hectares (72 dunums) and designed following sustainable principles, including renewable energy solutions. The village will feature fully furnished homes, a mosque, a multi-purpose hall for 500 people, and endowment-based commercial outlets to promote economic activity.

To support youth and community engagement, the village will include a football pitch, sports academy, and modern infrastructure such as surveillance cameras, fire alarm systems, and solar-powered lighting. Around 1,700 residents are expected to benefit from the first village.

Annual Expansion and Educational Initiatives

The project plans to establish one model village each year, furthering Sheikh Rashid’s humanitarian vision. Education is a core focus through the Rashid Education Project, in partnership with the Digital School under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. A modern school accommodating over 320 students will provide both traditional and digital learning platforms, ensuring children have access to quality education.

Empowering Families Economically

The initiative also aims to strengthen families’ economic independence. Vocational training, micro-enterprise programs, and financial support will enable residents to start sustainable businesses, reducing dependence on aid and fostering long-term social and economic stability.

Health and Wellbeing

Healthcare is another priority. The village will house a health centre offering preventive and therapeutic services. Sanitation systems, overhead and underground water tanks, and wells will secure continuous access to clean water. The program will also train community members in first aid and preventive healthcare to promote a safe and healthy environment.

Rashid Villages represents a comprehensive approach to humanitarian aid, combining infrastructure, education, economic empowerment, and healthcare to create self-sustaining communities. The initiative stands as a lasting tribute to Sheikh Rashid’s values of generosity, compassion, and leadership.
