In a significant operation, authorities in Canada confiscated a large quantity of contraband at Collins Bay Institution, a federal correctional center. Conducted between April 1 and April 9, 2026, this initiative was spearheaded by the staff of Correctional Service Canada.

Officials reported that multiple packages filled with illegal items were intercepted due to heightened security measures implemented by the institutional team. The haul included various drugs such as marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, hashish, and cannabis concentrate referred to as “shatter.” Additionally, confiscated items featured tobacco products, drug paraphernalia, a knife, and several mobile phones along with their accessories.

The estimated value of these seized goods is around $1.1 million, underscoring the seriousness of the attempted smuggling endeavors. Officials highlighted that such contraband significantly threatens the safety and security of both inmates and staff in correctional environments.

To combat the influx of illicit items, Correctional Service Canada has adopted advanced security protocols. This includes the utilization of ion scanners for drug detection and the deployment of trained detection dogs to inspect buildings, visitors, personal belongings, and inmates. These measures are integral to enforcing stringent control over banned materials within the facilities.

Moreover, authorities are enhancing their capabilities by collaborating with law enforcement to investigate and penalize those involved in smuggling operations. Officials underscored the critical need to eliminate contraband to foster a secure environment in prisons.

In addition, a confidential tip line has been introduced, allowing the public to report any suspicious behavior related to prison security. This toll-free service enables individuals to share information anonymously, facilitating a more effective response to threats such as drug trafficking and unauthorized items.

Authorities confirmed that they will remain vigilant and take all necessary actions to guarantee the safety, security, and proper functioning of correctional institutions nationwide.
