In the southern Gaza Strip, hospitals are facing a critical fuel shortage, with only three days' worth of fuel left, according to the head of the World Health Organization. This dire situation is attributed to closed border crossings, preventing the delivery of essential supplies. Israel's recent military incursion into the city of Rafah and seizure of the nearby crossing into Egypt, a vital route for aid, has exacerbated the crisis.

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the gravity of the situation, warning that without fuel, humanitarian operations would cease, further exacerbating the already dire conditions in the region. He noted that one of the hospitals in Rafah, Al-Najjar, had already ceased operations due to ongoing hostilities and the military operation in the area.

Tedros called for an immediate end to the border closures and military operations, stressing the urgent need to expand humanitarian efforts to reach thousands of people in desperate need of essential services.
