The Edmonton Oilers ended their three-game losing streak with an exciting 5-4 overtime win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday. Connor McDavid led from the front with two goals, while Jack Roslovic sealed the victory with a brilliant backhand shot in overtime. The win gave Edmonton a much-needed boost after a series of close defeats.
Jack Roslovic, who was born in Columbus and once played for the Blue Jackets, became the hero of the night. Just 56 seconds into overtime, he broke free on a breakaway and lifted a smooth backhand past Jet Greaves to secure the win for the Oilers. The goal was a special moment for Roslovic as he scored against his former team to end the Oilers’ losing streak.
Connor McDavid once again showed his class, scoring two key goals in the third period to bring Edmonton back into the game. His first goal came just 58 seconds into the period when he spun past a defender and roofed a backhand shot. Later, he scored again with a determined drive to the net, cutting the deficit and energizing his teammates for a late push.
Jake Walman was another standout performer for the Oilers, contributing two goals and an assist. His first goal came late in the first period with a rising shot that beat Greaves under the bar. He later tied the game at 4-4 with just 58 seconds remaining in regulation. Walman’s aggressive play and timely scoring helped the Oilers complete their dramatic comeback.
The Columbus Blue Jackets began the game well, taking the lead through Ivan Provorov, who fired a sharp snap shot past Stuart Skinner midway through the first period. Sean Monahan and Boone Jenner also added goals, while rookie Adam Fantilli scored one and assisted another. Despite their early control, the Blue Jackets could not stop Edmonton’s late rally.
Goaltender Stuart Skinner faced 19 shots and made several important saves for Edmonton. Though he allowed four goals, his composure in key moments—especially during overtime—helped the Oilers secure the win. His calm presence gave the defense confidence to push forward in the final stages.
Jet Greaves of Columbus made 19 saves but struggled to contain Edmonton’s offense in the later periods. He allowed the crucial overtime goal to Roslovic after being tested repeatedly in the third period. Despite the loss, Greaves showed flashes of brilliance, especially during Edmonton’s early power plays.
Adam Fantilli was one of the brightest players for the Blue Jackets, scoring a fine goal and providing an assist. His goal came during a 4-on-4 sequence where he finished a clever backhand pass from Kirill Marchenko. The young forward’s performance was one of the few positives for Columbus in an otherwise disappointing finish.
The game highlighted Edmonton’s resilience and attacking power. Despite trailing 4-2 early in the third period, the Oilers refused to give up. McDavid’s leadership, Roslovic’s finishing touch, and Walman’s timely goals proved decisive. The team’s ability to rally under pressure showcased their growing confidence as they aim to climb back up the standings.
With this morale-boosting win, the Oilers will look to build momentum in their upcoming fixtures. Their next game will test whether they can maintain consistency and strengthen their playoff hopes. For the Blue Jackets, the loss extended their winless streak to four games, signaling the need for defensive improvements before their next matchup.
