Veteran Bollywood actress Neena Gupta has once again shown her simple and practical fashion sense. In a new Instagram video, she praised the traditional salwar kameez as the best outfit for women while travelling, calling it “comfortable, useful, and full of solutions.”
The 66-year-old actress, known for her honest opinions and unique style, explained that the Indian suit is not only elegant but also extremely practical for flights and train journeys — especially when it comes to cleanliness and comfort.
Neena Gupta’s Travel Secret
In her video posted on October 26, Neena Gupta said she prefers wearing a salwar kameez set while travelling because of its design and usefulness. Speaking in Hindi, she explained that the salwar’s narrow cuff (pocha) helps prevent the fabric from touching dirty bathroom floors, which are common in airplanes and trains.
She said, “When you travel, this outfit is very comfortable. Keep the cuff of the salwar only 12 inches narrow, so it doesn’t drag on the floor. Bathroom floors in planes and trains are often dirty, and this design saves your clothes from getting wet or dirty.”
Dupatta Can Be Used as a Shawl
Neena also pointed out another big advantage — the dupatta. She said the dupatta can easily be used as a shawl if the air conditioning on a plane or train makes you feel cold. “If you feel chilly, just wrap it around your shoulders. It keeps you warm and adds style,” she said.
According to Neena, this makes the traditional Indian suit a much better travel option than track pants or Western wear, which may look sporty but don’t always offer the same comfort or flexibility.
Simple Yet Smart Travel Fashion
In the same video, Neena suggested that women should keep the salwar length up to the ankle to make walking easier and prevent tripping. She also mentioned that this outfit can be styled with both traditional juttis (Indian shoes) or sneakers, depending on the occasion and personal preference.
“This is a very good Indian dress to wear while travelling,” Neena said. “It gives comfort, looks elegant, and keeps you clean. It provides a solution for everything — from cold air to dirty bathrooms.”
Her followers praised her for promoting Indian wear in such a simple and relatable way. Many women in the comments agreed, saying they had faced similar problems during long trips and found her advice both practical and refreshing.
Why Her Advice Resonates with Many Women
Travel experts say Neena’s suggestion makes perfect sense, especially for Indian women who prefer traditional clothing. The salwar kameez is made from light, breathable fabric that allows easy movement, unlike jeans or tight trousers. The loose fit keeps travellers comfortable during long journeys, and the dupatta serves multiple purposes — from a blanket to a head cover or even a travel accessory.
Fashion consultant Nishtha Sood said, “Neena Gupta’s take on travel fashion is spot-on. The salwar kameez is not just traditional — it’s smart dressing. It works for all seasons, keeps you decent and covered, and is easy to wash or maintain.”
Comfort Meets Culture
Over the years, Neena Gupta has built a reputation for being honest and grounded. From talking about ageing gracefully to sharing her thoughts on style and life, she continues to inspire women with her simple yet confident choices.
Her latest video is another example of how she celebrates Indian culture with practicality. Instead of following Western trends, she shows how traditional wear can still be stylish, sensible, and relevant in today’s world.
“People wear track pants and T-shirts while travelling, but this outfit is better,” she said with a smile. “It’s comfortable, clean, and elegant. You can wear it anywhere.”
Takeaway for Travellers
Neena Gupta’s message is clear — travel fashion doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Sometimes, the best solutions lie in traditional clothing. Her advice reminds women that comfort and style can go hand in hand, even at 30,000 feet.
So, the next time you plan a train or flight journey, you might want to leave your jeans behind and pack a soft cotton or silk salwar kameez instead. It’s a perfect mix of tradition, comfort, and practicality — exactly what Neena Gupta calls “a solution for everything.
