Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review India’s preparedness amid the ongoing war involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which has now entered its fourth week.
The meeting focused on both immediate and long-term steps to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and maintain energy security. The government reiterated its commitment to protect citizens from the impact of the conflict.
Senior ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, S Jaishankar, Hardeep Singh Puri and Nirmala Sitharaman attended the meeting. Officials reviewed the evolving global situation and its possible impact on key sectors of the Indian economy.
The CCS, India’s top decision-making body on security matters, assessed the situation across sectors such as agriculture, fertilisers, food security, petroleum, power, trade, shipping, MSMEs, and supply chains. The government noted that the conflict could have short, medium and long-term effects on both the global economy and India.
A detailed review confirmed that essential commodities, including food, fuel and energy, remain adequately available. The government also examined fertiliser requirements for the upcoming kharif season and said current stocks are sufficient, while alternative sourcing options are being explored for the future.
Coal availability at power plants was also reviewed, with officials confirming that there is no risk of electricity shortage at present.
To reduce risks, the government is planning to diversify import sources for key sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals. Efforts are also being made to explore new export markets for Indian goods.
Prime Minister Modi directed officials to adopt a “whole-of-government” approach, with better coordination between ministries and state governments. He stressed strict action against hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities to protect consumers.
As part of immediate measures, the government has increased commercial LPG allocation to states, giving priority to hospitals and educational institutions. States have also been advised to expand PNG connections, while authorities are conducting raids to prevent LPG hoarding.
Officials confirmed that port operations across India remain normal, with no congestion reported. In the Persian Gulf region, all Indian ships and sailors are safe, and authorities continue to closely monitor developments.
The conflict has also impacted global trade routes, especially through the Strait of Hormuz. Rising tensions have led to a 25% increase in industrial diesel prices in India.
The government said it is closely monitoring the situation and will take all necessary steps to ensure energy security, stable supply chains and minimal impact on citizens and industries.
